Harris attacks Trump on immigration

Vice President Kamala Harris criticized former President Trump on Friday regarding immigration policies, asserting that he was responsible for the failure of a bipartisan border security bill earlier this year. She expressed her willingness to collaborate with Republicans, emphasizing her intention to “extend an olive branch.”

Harris remarked, “Transnational gangs crossing the border—engaging in the trafficking of firearms, narcotics, and human beings—are not dreamers; they are indifferent to the political affiliations of voters.” She underscored the necessity for leaders to unite in pursuit of sensible solutions, stating, “It is crucial that any individual claiming to be a leader collaborates with others to address these issues effectively.”

She further elaborated on the need for immediate cooperation to identify practical solutions, distinguishing this approach from mere rhetoric often found at political rallies. “This is about rectifying past errors,” she asserted.

This shift in Harris’s rhetoric indicates her campaign’s strategy to align more closely with Trump’s stance on immigration and border security. In response, the Republican candidate has vowed to reinstate the border security bill that Trump previously opposed, should he win the election.

“I will take more decisive action to secure our borders,” he stated. “To prevent unauthorized entry, I will implement stricter measures to enhance security between various ports of entry.” He outlined that individuals who illegally enter the United States will face arrest, deportation, and a five-year ban from re-entry. Additionally, he proposed increased criminal penalties for repeat offenders and those who fail to seek asylum at designated entry points, asserting that unlawful crossings will not be tolerated.
